God’s Word. God’s Promises.
The Word of God contains many promises made by God. For example, the first gospel promise (Genesis 3:15) was that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent’s head. Later, God promised Abraham that through his offspring all nations would be blessed (Gen. 12:3). Every promise from God is bound up in His unchanging character.
After affirming his clear conscience in the sincerity of his ministry (2 Cor. 1:12–14) and explaining the misunderstanding surrounding his change of ministry plans (1:15–17), the apostle Paul grounds his reliability in the faithfulness of God revealed in Christ (1:18–19). He then writes these profound words, "For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us" (2 Cor. 1:20). Here we learn that our Lord Jesus is the living fulfilment of every promise of God. This means every promise God has ever made finds its ultimate “Yes" in Christ. Because of this, we must respond with a grateful "Amen" to God as we believe this to be true! This is why we must look to Christ alone for salvation and look to Him everyday. Are you standing on the promises?
